Custom Hand Made

Albums & Wooden Boxes

by Ryan Rowell

When Ryan and I got married on May 25th 2012, we told ourselves that we wouldn’t be those people who left printing their photos to a “later date” or “when we have time” which is really just code for NEVER! So as soon as we were home from our honeymoon we got to work, spending ever spare second (in the middle of our busy wedding season) on our own wedding albums, prints for our family and friends. Within just 3 short months we had our albums in our hands and a whole bunch of prints on a variety of papers and canvas to display in our home. We look at our wedding albums all the time, and the prints that decorate our house are a constant reminder of that amazing moment in our lives. But I was always so worried that I would spill something on my wedding album just lying out on the table. Ryan knows how clumsy i am when it comes to anything liquid in a cup or bowl, and the clumsiness intensifies as the colour intensifies (red wine, coffee, borscht) you name it, if it has a dark colour its going to end up on the table or the couch. So I told Ryan that I needed a box to save our albums. Even though they are waterproof, with a girl like me hanging around, there is no hope for these albums.  So we looked into box companies in North America, and no one was making a finished box big enough for a wedding album of 10×10 inch size or larger. Most album boxes were scrap wood or balsa wood with rough edges that would give you a sliver! In true Ryan fashion, he decided to take matters into his own hands.

In the 10 years that we have been together, Ryan has made the following items: 2 trade show booths, my home library shelving, turned a small closet in our hallway into a little bench where we can sit to put shoes on, an electric guitar fully hand carved, sewn all our custom albums bags in past years, created years worth of custom photography lighting equipment for us, and built an in window seat/chest under our bay window, and not to mention all the things I have broken in the past that he has rebuilt for me. He is more than handy around the house. I am very, very lucky to have him. Opposites sure to attract, and it keeps him busy 😉

So here is the latest and greatest from the Rowell’s Wood Shop. It has been a long road to finally creating a product that will last many many years and protect our clients precious memories. Each wedding album we create will include a hand made oak wood box. These album boxes are solid wood, with a very smooth finish, the finger joint in the corners adds to their beauty. They offer a rustic look but serve as a high end centrepiece for any coffee table. When we designed these boxes we wanted to keep them made in Canada. It was important for us to use good wood and take our time finishing them to give them an unforgettable shine. We are thrilled to see these albums already sitting on our 2013 clientele’s coffee tables.

Cheers

& Ryan
