Krista & Darren

Written by Ryan Rowell

Darren & Krista live and work in the busy city of Toronto, so its no wonder they spend most of their weekends in relaxing Muskoka. For their engagement session they opted for a tour around some of Muskoka’s most beautiful locations in the late fall. Beginning at Taboo Resort and ending in the picturesque area at Bala Falls in Bala, Ontario Canada.

For their wedding they chose the private setting at Windermere House, in the small town of Windermere, Ontario.  Windermere House is the perfect blend of the old and the new. With its classic turn of the century exterior and modern decor inside, Windermere House really gives guests a sense of the past and present. It rained off and on on Krista and Darren’s day, but we were able to capture a huge group shot on the back lawn of all the guests, and some great portraits of the bride and groom on their custom made canoe. Rachel A. Clingen created a blend of Muskoka rustic decor with delicate accents for the ceremony and reception.

Given Darren’s love for photography, hiring a photographer was high on the priority list after we got engaged! We were somewhat overwhelmed at first given the many photographers there are to choose from. However, when we started our research online and saw the work of and Ryan of Rowell Photography, it quickly became an easy decision. What initially appealed to us about Rowell Photography was the fact that they had photographed so many weddings in Muskoka, which is where we were looking to get married. When we saw their work featuring a wedding at Windermere House on Lake Rosseau, we fell in love instantly – not only with them as photographers but also with the venue, which became our number one choice. The beauty of Rowell’s work – everything from the vibrant colours that literally popped out of the page to the creativity of each shot – was exceptional. When we met and Ryan, they continued to impress us with their flexibility and laid back attitude. We quickly came to realize that we had made a great first decision in our choice of wedding vendors! and Ryan were casual and accommodating (particularly the day of the wedding when the weather changed the plans we had made) yet so professional at the same time. They are truly a dynamic husband and wife couple that have incredible vision and passion for what they do. We were honoured to have them a part of our special day. Our engagement and wedding photos, along with the outstanding wedding albums and Ryan designed for us and our families, will serve as fond memories of our special day for many years to come.Krista & Darren

One of the locations this couple chose for their engagement photos was the docks at Taboo Resort in Muskoka, Canada.

The photo on the left was taken at Pro Shop at Taboo Resort it is a very interesting building. A mix of Muskoka rustic birch logs, stone and metal and makes for a great backdrop.

Not too far down the road is Bala, Ontario and the Bala Falls. One of Muskoka’s most popular little towns, with some of the most beautiful scenery.

Inside the front lobby at Taboo Resort is Muskoka’s most unique and modern looking fireplace. This is one of our favorite places to shoot at Taboo.

One of the best places to shoot portraits before the wedding ceremony is at the Windermere Chapel. Its quiet and tucked away in the trees so none of the wedding guests can see the bride before the ceremony.

Anywhere you go in Muskoka you will find rock from the Canadian Shield, at Windermere house it is flat and close to the docks so it makes for stunning nature landscapes and romantic couples photos.

Giant group shots at Windermere House especially are becoming a tradition. Ryan usually walks out onto the roof and looks down on all the guests on the back lawn.
